5 Things A Client Has To Do

After twenty years of working in website development and online marketing, a few common themes show up in many of our projects. This article addresses some of the things that we see clients doing that help our team (And Hopefully Other Web Companies) perform to the best of our abilities.

Some of these may seem to be self evident, but it is a very difficult proposition sometimes to break out of our routines. What I can not stress enough, is that these projects can be very expensive propositions for your business, no matter the size, and it only takes a little bit more effort to really maximize your return on investment for the project.

Set Campaign Goals
“What is the main reason behind this campaign?” It’s a simple question, but it might take some time to clearly define. You should work this out with your team before you hire on a team to design your website or online marketing project. Without this guidance, a digital agency will have to make assumptions about your company in the earliest stages of getting to know your business.

Keep each campaign to one primary goal. It makes the project flow more smoothly and keeps things on track.

Keep the primary goal fairly broad and break the Primary up into a few goals that can be measured.

Be Specific

Make sure the team designing your website project understands your terminology. ‘Category’ doesn’t mean the same thing to every business. Only be being on the same playing field when it comes to terms can we address your goals well.

Avoid vague goals or change notes to avoid wasting time.

Be Involved / See the Work

Don’t be hands off with your online marketing project. If it was not important you would not be investing the money. If the digital agency doesn’t see your interest and involvement, you might be bumped down into their slower completion track.

Be sure to ask to see progress over time. Checking in on your project and reviewing the developing website will help catch any issues on the scope or function of the project before they get too far.

Know Your Client

Work with your agency to define your audience for the project. With the information in hand on exactly who your target audience is, your team can offer suggestions to make the project more effective based on their experience in the industry.

Meet The Team / Kick-Off Meeting
If possible, ask for a kick-off meeting in person with those who will be involved on the project.

The number one accomplishment will be creating a personal connection with the team members so that they are more driven to create their best work for you. Also, it establishes for you who is actually doing the work and how much of it is being outsourced.

Conclusion

I hope that these few thoughts help your business get the most benefit from their marketing budget. A little effort can go a long way in establishing a more trustful and long-term relationship with your online marketing vendor.
